Bluehost.com a Danger to Your Business

Open Letter to Robert Plank and Rosalind Gardner

Just as with Rosalind Gardner around Christmas, I was recently hacked probably through an old version of WordPress or an outdated plugin, however I was permanently suspended because of it at Bluehost.com!

I was on the case before Bluehost.com because I got a letter from Lloyd’s of London security unit.

I immediately renamed the redirects so they could not be used and called Bluehost.com Tech Support.

I was put on hold for 30 minutes via cell phone whilst I volunteer at a soup kitchen for the poor almost every day at 5:30 sharp.

Sara of the Abuse Department appropriately suspended my account temporarily but started yelling at me for not deleting the now renamed and now useless redirects.

Because she was yelling at me I told her not to talk to me like a little school boy because I am a Unix Administrator. Sara mocked me when I said that and deleted the evidence that Lloyd’s of London wanted!

I received a letter from abuse@bluehost.com after serving the poor for one half hour 5:30 to 6:00 Monday through Thursday that said I had world writable files and directories.

I printed out the results of the ./securityscan.sh script and corrected the permissions.

The next day I was restored only to receive another letter that said I had a few world writable files and directories, which I had changed the day before.

So, I corrected the permissions and wrote a letter to abuse@bluehost.com with a carbon copy for Lloyd’s of London and Matt Heaton the CEO.

I told them that my account was obviously rooted because I had already changed those permissions.

I got no response from the Abuse Department! However, I did get a form letter from Matt Heaton that apologized for the inconvenience.

The next day I was suspended permanently. They said “three strikes and you are out.”

They are not doing their job correctly at Bluehost.com! Loss of command and control probably from growing to fast and a poorly educated applicant pool in Utah. Not like Hostgator.com who actually moved from Florida to Houston to up the quality of their applicant pool.

As a System Administrator I would backup the infected server to gather forensic evidence for AT&T, then run a clean backup.

Bluehost.com executed the victim! The front line lower techs are sympathetic to my unfair treatment however Bluehost only lost a client and I lost my business.

If you care about the security of your customers business and thus it’s viability use Hostgator.com even if the payout is more for affiliates at Bluehost.com.

Now that you know the truth about the current state of affairs at Bluehost.com it is your duty as a honest person and a honest Internet Marketer to do the right thing and tell the truth! Amen.
